Product presentation: Biocard - a biodegradable card
The Spanish company Akrocard, manufacturer of plastic cards with bar code, chip and magnetic strip, has launched a new type of biodegradable cards: the Biocard.
Every year, a total of 17 billion plastic cards generating more than 100,000 tons of refuse are used. More than 99% of these plastic cards are produced or derive from non renewable energy sources and require approximately 600 years to decompose.
Complying with an environmental protection policy and meeting the consumer’s demands for ‘green’ products, Akrocard has developed Biocard – a 100% biodegradable card that decomposes after 39 months without any negative impact on the ecosystem.
The raw material, used in the manufacturing of the Biocards, fulfils the requirements of the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use - REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances). Besides, the biodegradability of the Biocards has been certified by an independent laboratory under the supervision of the University of Milan.
Biocard is not only an ecological product but can replace perfectly normal plastic cards since it serves the same purpose. It can be used as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), smartcard, access control, public transport card, citizen card, ID card, membership card, hotel key card etc.
Furthermore they feature the same characteristics as standard PVC cards: they are flexible and resistant and they show long term durability and high printing quality. The design is printed on the front and rear side, the chip is located in the central frame and the magnetic strip is on the back side. They can be personalised according to the customer’s needs and printed in high quality in CMYK or golden/silver serigraphy.
